It is Day 5 of the Kitchen Remodel. It really doesn’t look much different so I did not take any photos. The wiring is all done. Guys came today to start on the walls. All is going well 🙂
This recipe came from another blogger PreventionRD. Even though I am not crazy about cooking in a crock pot. This recipe sounded good and thought I would give it a try. She found the recipe in Cooking Light! So it must be healthy!
Char Siu, the Chinese version of barbecue, is usually served with sticky or long-grain white rice. I opted to serve it on a bun like pulled pork.
Slow Cooker Char Siu Pork Roast
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 teaspoons bottled minced garlic
- 2 teaspoons grated peeled fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon dark sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 2 pounds boneless Boston butt pork roast, trimmed (make sure you trim fat off and mine was bone in)
- 1/2 cup fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
Combine first 8 ingredients in a small bowl, stirring well with a whisk. Place in a large zip-top plastic bag. Add pork to bag; seal. Marinate in refrigerator at least 2 hours, turning occasionally.
Place pork and marinade in an electric slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
Remove pork from slow cooker using a slotted spoon; place on a cutting board or work surface. Cover with aluminum foil; keep warm.
Add broth to sauce in slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 30 minutes or until sauce thickens. Shred pork with 2 forks; serve with sauce.
The sauce never really thickened up. I think if I would have cooked the sauce on my stove top instead of the crock pot it might have thickened up more. This would also be tasty with BBQ sauce. It sure was simple to do.
Tonight we were watching Man VS Food. Did you know he filmed a segment of his show in Sauget at a Gateway Grizzlies game? Do you know they have a burger with Krispy Kreme donuts as the buns? Man vs Food guy loved it and said it was the best baseball burger. Here is a link to CBS saying it is the unhealthiest burger…ya think? http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/06/03/broadcasts/main1680067.shtml He also named their nachos baseballs best, Philly cheese steak nachos. I guess I need to go to a game next season and least have a bite of the burger and the nachos. Has anyone had either one of these? If so, please share with us what you thought of them.
