English Trifle and Italian Bread Dip

I usually make this recipe in the summer time, but the food theme for last nights book club was-English Foods. It is really simple and is great to make for a crowd.

English Trifle

  • 1/4 cup rum
  • 1 cup sliced almonds
  • 2 angel food loaves or round cakes; cubed
  • 3 small boxes of instant French Vanilla pudding mix
  • 6 cups half & half
  • Whatever kind of fruit you want to use
  • 1 small container of Cool Whip

Combine rum and almonds. Pour almond mixture over angel food cake cubes and marinate while slicing fruit and preparing pudding. Slice fruit if needed. Prepare pudding as directed on package using half and half instead of milk. Layer in trifle or punch bowl in a couple of layers..I usually do 2. Marinated cake, fruit mixture, pudding. Top the last layer with cool whip. Sprinkle with extra almonds and fruit if desired.

 

Ingredient Line Up.

Pour rum over almonds.

Cut angel food into cubes. I like buying the Angel Food loaves, but the round cake works also. Sometimes I get one of each.

Pour almond mixture over bread cubes.

Make your pudding. If needed, slice whatever fruit you would like.

Now you are ready to layer; cake first.

Fruit next. I usually use strawberries and blueberries. If I have them I also add blackberries. You really can whatever combo you want.

Pudding is next...then repeat layers.

Top with cool whip.

If desired, sprinkle with some almonds and the fruit you used in the trifle.

It really is easy and super good!

Here is another super quick, easy and good recipe. No need to go out and buy bread dips when you can make it.

Italian Bread Dip

  • 1 T crushed red pepper
  • 1 T black pepper
  • 1 T dried oregano
  • 1 T dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 T dried basil
  • 1 T. garlic powder
  • 1 T garlic, minced

Mix all together. Put 1 or 2 Tablespoons in a small bowl. Pour extra virgin olive oil over the mixture. Dip bread in the mixture. Delicioso!

Ingredient Line Up.

Mix it all the together.

Put some in a bowl and add some extra virgin olive oil. All ready for you to dip your bread.

Everyone always loves this stuff!
